Frequently asked questions.

Do you accept insurance?

Please note that all insurance companies require a diagnostic code to provide reimbursement.

CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield

I am an in-network participating provider within the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Network and will submit claims for clients within this Network. You are responsible for any deductibles and/or co-payments.

If you have an insurance plan through the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield network, I recommend calling the customer service number listed on your card and asking the following:

  • Does your plan cover mental health services?

  •  Is a referral needed from your primary care physician or is prior-authorization needed?

  • Is there a deductible that you need to meet before they start to pay for services/therapy?

  • How much do you need to pay per session after your deductible is met?

  • Is there a limit in the number of sessions per calendar year?

  • Please confirm that I am considered an in-network provider for your particular health plan.

All Other Insurance Plans

I am considered an “out-of-network provider” with all insurance carriers not listed above. If your health insurance carrier allows you to choose an out-of-network behavioral health provider, I can provide you with a statement of services with your diagnosis that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please note that as an out-of-network provider, I will not bill your insurance company directly or accept payment directly from them. It will be your responsibility to pay me directly and to submit the claim to your insurance company.

I encourage you to call the customer service number on your insurance card and ask the following questions to clarify your coverage for out-of-network providers:

  • Does your plan cover mental health services?

  • Is a referral or pre-authorization/certification needed?

  • Is there a deductible that you need to meet before they start to reimburse you for services/therapy?

  • How much will they reimburse per session after your deductible is met?

  • Is there a limit in the number of sessions per calendar year?

What are your fees?

If I am not in-network with your insurance plan (please see above), my fees are as follows:

Initial 75 minute appointment - $235

55 minute sessions - $185

When is payment due and what payment methods do you accept?

Payment (either in full or co-payment/deductible if I am participating in your insurance network) is due at the time of service. You can pay by cash, check, or credit card. I use a secure, HIPPA compliant Practice Management System where you can make payments by credit card and/or where I can keep your credit card securely on file to be charged after every visit.

Do you provide Telehealth Services?

Yes, I can provide therapy, when clinically appropriate, using web-based video through an easy, secure, HIPAA compliant platform. I am licensed to provide Telehealth services to clients residing in Maryland, Virginia and all participating PSYPACT states, including the District of Columbia (https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/psypactmap).

How do I schedule an appointment?

Initially, we will schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation to determine whether I or another provider would best serve your needs. You can contact me here. As security and prompt delivery of email cannot be guaranteed, please do not include sensitive clinical information and never use email in an emergency.

Can you prescribe medication?

As a clinical psychologist, I cannot prescribe medication. Research studies suggest that psychiatric medication can be an effective treatment for certain mental health symptoms. I will discuss with you whether a consultation with a psychiatrist or other physician may be a useful adjunct to therapy. If you are already taking prescribed psychiatric medications or if in the course of our work you start to do so, I will communicate with your psychiatrist or prescribing physician to ensure that we are coordinated in your care.
